During the 16th century, Spanish design was a unique blend of Renaissance and Moorish design. In this table or escritorio) we see how the two styles have been combined with a simple, square edged, plank table top and heavy carving on the table skirt and drawer fronts.
Referred to as a long table, a term that supersedes the name refractory table which once applied to a table of this size but was changed C 1540 after the abolishment of the monasteries during the reformation, is supported on ring turned spindle legs with spreader bas just above floor level.
The four drawer fronts are decorated with a leaf carving and have ring style drawer pulls. A similar carving has been repeated on the remaining thee sides of the table apron.
The table measures 2 1/2 inches = 63mm high x 6 inches = 152mm long x 2 inches = 50mm wide.
