The first specialist game table was introduced in the late 17th century.
This specialist chess table is a reproduction from George 1st era oval in shape with a chess board in the centre and room on either side of the board to place the chess pieces in play.
A brass gallery around each end of the table prevents the chess pieces from falling of the table during play.
A drawer at the front and back of the table was used to store chess pieces, dice and scoring pads.
The drawer fronts are decorated with a rectangular raised cock bead around the 2 brass drawer knobs.
A raised carving around the ends of the table under the gallery is decorated with a raised cock bead to match the decoration on the drawer fronts
The 4 turned fluted legs are fitted with casters.
A set of black and white hand made chess pieces are included with the table.
